Message from the School Principal, Mrs. PhillipsWelcome to Salem School
“Salem School District is dedicated to providing learning environments that challenge each student to reach his or her full potential through an excellent academic program in a nurturing, student-centered atmosphere. The family-school partnership, with the support of the community, will inspire our students to achieve excellence in all aspects of their educational experience and to become productive, responsible members of our community, our country and our world.”
Each school year we set goals to continuously improve our school. Goals and priorities are set based on parent, teacher, and student feedback. We also use data from district and state assessments to set our goals. With this information we determine our action plan for the school year. Collaboration is a necessary component to continuously improve our school. We have committees that meet regularly to carry out our action plans. The Safe School Climate Committee meets several times a year to ensure that the action plan is being carried out. The teachers meet weekly with their Professional Learning Communities, and work collaboratively to improve their teaching skills by sharing effective instructional practices. The purpose of the Professional Learning Communities is to review student work and assessments and adjust instruction accordingly. These communities help improve the academic performance of our students, with the ultimate goal of preparing our children to meet the demands of the 21st century.
The participation of our entire school and community is an integral part in the success of our school. With the dedicated leadership of our PTO and many volunteers we create a strong relationship between home and school which is vital to both the academic and emotional success of our children. Their annual fundraisers make it possible for Salem students to go on field trips and to be involved in additional enrichment activities.
We have a well-developed sports program. In the fall we offer Cross Country and Soccer, in the winter Basketball, and in the spring Track and Field. We also support academic clubs such as Math Counts and Science Olympiads for our grades 6 - 8 students, which meet every week.
Our Student Activity Program is based on members of the community and staff to volunteer. There are many activities that occur throughout the school year, such as hiking club, French club, chess club, wrestling club, yoga and many more, which not only unite the school and community, but also contribute to the rich experiences that engage our students. We invite and encourage you to be an active member of our PTO and volunteer community.
We are here for our students, and make every effort to nurture and support them through their educational journey at Salem School.
