• Frequently Asked Questions
    1.  How do I request a bus stop change?
Bus drivers are not authorized to change bus stops. Please contact the following (in this order):
    1. Greg Cordova (M&J) - 860-537-2622 (If unresolved please contact #2)
    2. Superintendent's Office - 860-892-1223

Note: Bus stops are normally only changed for safety reasons. We do not change stops based on the proximity of the stop to your residence, the parents ability to see their students at the stop, the fact that the bus passes your house to get to the stop, the lack of sidewalks, or that it may be dark outside.

    2.     What if I want my child to get off at a different stop?
Students are assigned to the stop closest to their home address. Changes of bus stop for personal preferences such as, but not limited to get on/off the bus sooner/later or being with other friends in the neighborhood are not allowed.

Is this for child care purposes? Every day? If so, fill out the Transportation Parent Authorization Form and include the alternate address information for the child care provider and the student will be assigned to the stop for the provider's address. If this is for a daycare facility you will also need to fill out the Verification of Daycare Enrollment Form (top portion) and have daycare center personnel fill out and sign the bottom portion and fax to the child's school.

One time request/emergency? Parent will need to send in a note to the school and the school will provide the student with an Official Bus Pass to ride another bus or get off at a different stop.

Note: The bus driver cannot approve the change.
    3. What if my child is late or does not come home in the afternoon?
Call the School Office at 860-859-0267 or  M&J Bus, Inc. at 860-537-2622.

    4. How are bus stops determined?
The locations of bus stops are determined by M&J Bus, Inc. (Greg Cordova) with assistance from the school administration. The safety of students is the first consideration when determining bus stop locations, and our bus company uses specific criteria for setting safe stops. This consideration takes precedence over all other routing criteria. The School bus will travel streets or street segments that are at least 3/10 of a mile long and which provide a safe turnaround area for the bus. Door side pick-up and drop-off will be provided to students who reside on high speed roadways (40+ mph) throughout the town. Students are not permitted to cross multi-lane roads.
    5. What if I have a concern regarding by child's bus driver?
Please contact M&J Bus, Inc., Greg Cordova at 860-537-2622.
    7. What if my child is being bullied?
The student should inform the driver of what is going on. Additionally, the parent/guardian should contact the school principal for your school. Contact names and numbers are as follows:
    • Salem School Office - 860-859-0267

    8. How do I find out which bus route my child will be riding?

At the beginning of a new school year you should check the district website for the new bus routes posting.  Additionally, each August Salem School parents receive a letter from the school office that provides bus route information for each student.
Students that attend ELHS - Routes will be posted in the newspaper when EL announces their HS routes.  We will also have that information posted on our website as soon as it is received from the bus company.  That typically occurs in mid-August.

    Parent Responsibilities

    1. Parents are responsible for the safety and supervision of their children from the time the children leave home in the morning until they board the bus, and at the end of the day from the time their children depart the bus until they arrive home.
    2. Insure that your child arrives at the correct stop 5-10 minutes before the bus arrives.
    3. The care, supervision and behavior of their children at the bus stop (prior to loading in the morning, and after unloading from the school bus in the afternoon) is the parent's responsibility.
