• The PTO is an organization of volunteers.  Through financial support and volunteer efforts we work to enchance the education of the students at Salem School.  We are parents, teachers, and members of the Salem community.  The PTO is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization incorporated under the laws of Connecticut. The PTO is governed by an Executive Board composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Liaison.  If you would like more information about the Salem PTO, please do not hesitate to contact any of the board members in person, or through salemschoolpto@yahoo.com

    The Board scheduled meetings, and carries out its responsibilities under the bylaws and Connecticut law.  The Salem PTO offers programs, and conducts fundraisers throughout the year to benefit our children and the school.


    Section 601

    a. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Organization and shall perform all other duties usually pertaining to the office. b.  The President shall devote such time as is necessary to carry out the duties of the office.

    c.   The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization.

    d.   Serve in the capacity of Vice President, Secretary, or PTO Liaison in their absence or vacancy until such time that the Executive Board can appoint a replacement.

    e.   The President is authorized to co-sign all checks.


    Section 602
    a.   The Vice President shall act as an assistant to the President in  all matters of the Organization as required by the President.
    b.  Serve in the capacity of President, Secretary, or Liaison in their absence or vacancy until such time that the Executive Board can appoint a replacement.
    c.  The Vice President is authorized to co-sign all checks.


    Section 603
    a.   The Secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings.
    b.  The Secretary shall attend all meetings of the Organization.
    c.  The Secretary shall maintain an updated membership list of the Organization.
    d.  Serve in the capacity of Liaison in his absence or vacancy until such time that the Executive Board can appoint a replacement.
    e.  The Secretary is authorized to co-sign all checks.


    Section 604   
    a.   The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the Organization, record All receipts and keep an accurate record of all receipts and expenditures.
    b.   The Treasurer shall disburse funds as authorized by the Organization in the annual Budget.
    c.    The Treasurer shall ensure all checks are signed by at least two members of the Executive Board.
    d.    The Treasurer shall present a statement of account at every regular meeting of the Organization and at other times when requested by the Executive Board, and shall make a full report at the final general meeting of the school year in a format directed by the Executive Board.
    e.    The Treasurer shall provide any assistance required to the Audit Committee during the conduct of its audit of the prior fiscal year.
    f.    The Treasurer is authorized to co-sign all checks.
    g.   The Treasurer shall be responsible to the Organization for the proper filing of all financial statements and tax filings.


    Section 605
    a. The Liaison to the PTO works with administration to process teacher enrichment requests as well as acting as a contact for PTO events and activities.
    b.  The Liaison will work with the chairmen of PTO committees on activities and events to ensure the PTO and BOE by laws are being followed.
    c.   All publications, not written by a PTO board member, regarding PTO activity, must be reviewed by the PTO Liaison or president prior to being submitted to the administration for final approval.
