    Dear Salem School Parents,

I am pleased to announce that we are once again offering the Salem School’s Reading Hall of Fame (RHOF) program.  This is an opportunity for all students in  to demonstrate their reading abilities and help us promote the joy of reading! The RHOF is available to children in every grade! The goal of the project is to have your child read quality literature, throughout the school year, for pleasure.  It’s not a race to finish first, but an incentive to read all year long!

In order for your student to become a member of Reading Hall of Fame, he or she must fulfill certain requirements based on their grade level.  Students will read award winning books, poems, fiction and non-fiction, magazine articles and more.  The requirements are different for each grade level and are available online, by the "reading Hall of Fame" display in the front hall or in the library . Lists of award winning books are available at the town library and on our website at www.salemschools.org/RHOF.

Since this award must be earned mostly at home, we encourage parents and children to talk over the requirements.  Developing a plan together, to complete the requirements, is a great organizational skill for your child.  Once the student has finished all the required reading and completed the biographical information, the student’s picture will be displayed in the "Reading Hall of Fame Gallery" in the school lobby.  Students should bring their completed form to their homeroom teacher, to Miss Woods or directly to the library. Thanks to the generosity of the Salem School PTO, all students completing the program will receive a gift certificate that may be used towards a book at the spring book fair, as well as a small gift.

Students may participate in this reading project starting today, but remember, the goal is to read all school year long, so make it last!  The program ends May 6, 2015.   I hope that ALL students become members of Reading Hall of Fame.  If you have questions, please contact me.  Have fun reading!

In the spring, students in grade 4, 5 & 6 will have the opportunity to design a Reading Hall of Fame Logo for the 2016-17 school year.

Yours in reading,                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Ms. Sarah Kateley                                                                                                                                                                                                          Library Media Specialist
